The EQC Championship at Narrows Plaza, was Intense, Exciting and full of Drama. Although we fell a little short of our goal, $9,206.00 total paid out was still a GREAT Tournament. We had 28 finalists, with the low pay at $100 and $1,816 for 1st place, with NO Progressive Pot. Our 2nd place finisher even took home a sweet $900. How about Lorna Flannery, a 160's average bowler taking down some BIG guns with a run of 240, 274 & 251, losing her last game by 6 pins. Or, the numerous close matches in the finals, such as a tie with a 9th/10th roll-off, or a quarterfinal match of Bob Rouse 237 vs Brian Selck 236 or our Top Qualifier Bill Hurst also losing by ONE pin 234 to 235.
It was our EQC Champion, Roland Jarata who won that ONE pin match over Bill Hurst. Roland also won several other tight matches. His run of wins were by 6 pins, 1 pin, 2 pins, 6 pins and in the Finals 16 pins. That final victory over Rich Eaton was a 'battle' that was MUCH closer than it sounds, coming right down to their final frame. This is Rolands' 1st win this year and 4th title since he joined the Tour in it's early days. He bowls in the FABC League at Skyway Park, which is also where he got his Storm "Secret Agent", that he used to win this one. Roland also had a strong support team with him. He asked me to thank wife Emma and son Ajay, along with Jeanierose Tabulina and Danny Ramos for their support. Emma said she was going Christmas shopping with the winnings. Roland also likes to play basketball and swim. Congratulations Roland on an amazing run!
Rich Eaton threw some nice games on his way to the final match, 237, 257, 262. He entered the finals as the #2 seed, shooting a fine 1040 on his third try. Rich was the only one Top Seeds to make it to the quarterfinals. Bob Rouse and Scott Leong tied for 3rd place taking home $450 each. Bill Hurst swept the qualifying prizes as the Top Qualifier on Saturday and overall, winning a new Hammer "No-Mercy", a 9-Tap Tour Jacket and $100 cash. Congratulations to all of the finalists and thanks to all the participants for making the event such an upbeat success.
