Dad's Day Doubles at Hillcrest was a blast! Nice turnout - Lots of happy, energetic bowlers - and the Tournament was won by a Father & Son! Could it get any better than that?
We had some challenges with the Doubles format & recaps, and we squeezed the squads too close together. It all worked out well in the end, and we learned what needs to be remedied for next time.
Our Doubles Champions are Roy & Erik Akioka. Shooting a very respectable 1037, which included a scratch 300 by Erik (296 w/hdcp). Both Erik and Roy are Life Members that have been with the Tour since 2005. They both compete in four leagues a week during the winter. Erik used a Morich "Awesome Finish" and Roy used a Track "Heat 2", both from Hanson Bros Pro Shop at Pacific Lanes. Erik, who owns a Product Delivery business, says his favorite aspect of the 9-Tap Tour is the atmosphere and all the great people he's met at the Tournaments. While Roy, who is retired from both the Army and Boeing, said he enjoys the variety of Tournament formats. Erik says he spends his spare time with family, computers and golf. Roy enjoys remodeling his house, traveling and watching all his grandkid's activities. The most appropriate comment came from Erik, who said he enjoys bowling with his Dad and wanted to bowl well in this Dad's Day Tournament.
With 78 entries and no Progressive Pot, the event paid $750 for 1st place. With a tie for the 15th spot, we paid 16 places. The high game pots and brackets also paid out an amazing $938, plus another $250 in the Dad's Day Pot, which was won by Rich Eaton ($150). 2nd place was a tie, with Ray Akioka and Mitch Vernon each getting another $50. To para-phrase a line from American Express... Fatherhood has it's privileges! In this case, they got all the money!
