Wrap Up

The Orleans hosted the LV Tour's 3rd Quarter Championship with$250.00 in added prize money provided by the Tour!  The Top qualifier from Saturday's competition was David Lankford, he received a Storm Bowling Ball courtesy of Storm.  David's AWESOME score of 1057 held up to also be the Top Qualifier for the weekend and he will receive a Tour TQ jacket.  Congratulations David! And thanks to Storm Bowling Products for providing such a great prize!

The weekend kicked off with our Crazy 8s Contest breaking last week's record of 16 entries with 18 this time around.  The 3 Lucky winners were Lola Anderson and David Lankford winning their way in to Main Event and Jim Eckerson picked up $40 toward his entry by finishing in third place.  Crazy 8s is a great way to "Win Your Way In" for only five bucks!  Give it a try in two weeks at Silver Nugget!  The next exciting event was Dennis Huston's "Golden Shot" for $2,188.00.  Unfortunately he did not get his 7th nine tap in a row but was rewarded with a COOL $500.00 from the Jackpot!

Saturday's format was different from our previous quarterly championships as Members were qualified by squad for the SundayFinals.  After the 3 squads were completed 8 bowlers were on their way to the Finals.   The scoring was a bit juiced as 5 bowlers broke the 1000 mark and low to qualify was a 969.  The two 'Last Chance' squads on Sunday qualified 3 more Members for the Finals.  There was a little added excitement as there was a tie for the third spot between Henry Murphy and Orrie Smith who each had a 981 series.  After a two frame roll-off, Orrie moved on to the Finals with Troy Rawling (995) and Alex Watanabe (993). So with the 11 man field set for the Finals, we held one Monster round and eliminated 3 members to get to the Elite Eight.  As always, all Finalists made the "Cash List" to share in the $3,922.00 paid out.

Advancing after the completion of the Monster round were Dennis Huston, Troy Rawling, Lenny Riley, Orrie Smith, Tony Madolora, Norris Montague, Alex Watanabe, and Okbum Shin.  This group had a collective 14 titles between them and one Member, Orrie Smith, in search of his first title. The eliminated finalists: David Lankford, Jim Eckerson, Greg Mamac settled for a 9th-11th place finish good for a $75.00 payday. After the Elite 8 Round, MembersLenny Riley, Alex Watanabe, Okdum Shin and Dennis Hustonwere eliminated and received $125.00 each.

The Final Four

Troy Rawling, Norris Montague, Orrie Smith, and Tony Madolora

With the Final Four set, Troy was making a record third appearance this year in a Quarterly Championship.  Orrie was chasing his first Title and Norris and Tony were looking to pick up their second Title.  Both of the semi-final matches were very exciting as the winners were not determined until the final two frames were completed! Moving on to the Final Match was Norris Montague andOrrie Smith.  Both Tony and Troy each took home $230.00!

In the championship match, Orrie Smith went up against Norris Montague.  Norris had a 7 pin handicap advantage over his close friend of 12 years.  Both Orrie at 81 years young and Norris at 70 years had 3 games of bowling behind them before starting the final match of the day.  The match was even during the first five frames or so until Orrie faltered a bit and Norris continued to strike.  The final score was 238 to 211 giving Norris his second Tour Title as 3rd Quarter Champion of 2017!  Orrie would get a very nice check for $390.00 and Norris pocketed an AWESOME $952.00.    Congratulations to both Norris and Orrie for a weekend of great bowling and achievements!

Norris Montague joined the 9-Tap Tour LV back in our first tournament in Nov of 2015.  He is one of the original 50 Memberswith membership #22.  For this tournament, Norris used his Columbia Full Tilt ball drilled up by David Haynes.  A retired school teacher who is showing no signs of slowing down, plans on bowling 4 leagues this winter at 4 different centers.  He won his first title at Gold Coast in March 2017 and thanks his wife, Susan for supporting his tournament bowling passion.  Cheering him on to victory were fellow Members Brian Blackman and Tony Madolora.  He commented that "he had the bowling gods with him" this weekend to help with his victory.  As for the money.....its going in the bank!  Congratulations Norris on your win and thanks for being a part of the 9-Tap Tour LV family!

Congratulations to all the finalists and thanks to all our members for your on going weekly support.  Sept 9th is a bye week so see you in two weeks on Sept 16th at Silver Nugget!
