Ft. Shafter

March 9th, 2019

Total Paid Out: $5,755.00

Wrap Up

Ft. Shafter "Best 3 out of 4" . . .

After a month layoff our 9 Tap tournament returned to action at Ft. Shafter Lanes for the tour favorite format “Best 3 out of 4” and again provided our members with excitement and close scoring.   The time off did not make a difference as Ft. Shafter produced 84 entries; paid out $5,755.00; 17 cashers; spreading the wealth among our members with a -1 to 56 handicap; and crowning Terrence Fukuda with his second title, earning $1,439.00 and a Red Tour Shirt.

It started early with Rocky Otsuka, posting a very nice score of 782 and the first squad lead.  Close by was Tonja Jenkins (748) and Matthew Rhoads (746) and ChampionJames Saballa Sr. (745).  There were still a lot of members in the mix with the second and third squads yet to bowl.  The lead changed hands as Champion Jody Loo shot the first of 3 800 series, firing a nice 811.  Rocky held on to second place but not for long as the third squad was to produce some great scoring.

The third squad put on quite a show as Paul Braga, Kekai Seabury and William Reyes Jr. got into the mix and set the stage for Terrence Fukuda.  Back in April of 2018, Terrence threw the front 9 "Natural Strikes", however, it's the fourth game; 9 natural strikes; the final frame and needing one more strike or no tap; Terrence wins the Ft. Shafter tournament.  Terrence goes high on the head pin and "Craig Bolling became the Ft. Shafter Champion"!  Does history repeat itself?  A "Big Time Yes"!

Paul Braga starts off really slow but then finishes really strong and posts a very nice 809 missing 2nd place by 2 pins.  William Reyes Jr. was well on his way to his second title only to be subdued by a couple of splits in the fourth and final game turning in a final score of 784 and fifth place.  Kekai Seabury provided the excitement of the tournament as he threw 11 Natural Strikes going for the second  Natural 300 game in Hawaii Region's history.   "Kekai is up on the approach, concentrating, fine stroke, delivers his ball . . . AUWE! too high, leaves the 6 - 10 and finishes with a SUPA 298 scratch game".

Terrence Fukuda needs a huge finish, he finishes the front 11 strikes but he comes up short of the head pin leaves a 7 count for a 297 no tap game and his second title. Congratulations!!  Terrence Fukuda!
